Stained Glass Windows

The church has many beautiful stained glass windows.
The Chancel
The window depicts the Crucifixion with Mary, mother of Jesus, on the left and St John on the right.
The three panels along the bottom of the window show Jesus washing the feet of the disciples before the Last Supper, Peter denying knowledge of Jesus on the eve of the crucifixion, and the disciples asleep in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1875. It is dedicated to the memory of the Rev Thomas Henry Shepherd, rector of Clayworth from 1810 to 1873, who died 11 February 1873 aged 94.
The inscription at the bottom of the window reads:

The window depicts Jesus giving the keys of heaven to St Peter. On either side of the central light are six other disciples: Peter's brother Andrew, James and his brother John, Philip, Bartholomew and Thomas.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1878.

St Nicholas' Chapel

At the top of the east wall is a small window showing St Nicholas holding a child. All of a late 15th or early 16th century date, apart from a poor replacement of the two pieces of drapery on the left; there is also a touch of confusion at the base of the crozier.
The east window of St Nicholas' Chapel shows nativity scenes. In the centre are the infant Jesus and Mary; to the left, Joseph and a wise man and to the right are the two other wise men.
At the bottom of the window are three panels showing, from left to right, angels playing musical instruments, the birth of Jesus with Mary and Joseph and three shepherds.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1877.

The south window of the chapel portrays the angel Gabriel announcing to the Virgin Mary that she is to give birth to Jesus (The Annunciation). The text at the bottom of the window reads: 'In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent down unto a town of Galilee named Nazareth to a virgin espoused to a man named Joseph of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.'
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1878.
South Aisle
The window depicts King David on the left playing a lyre. In the centre is Melchizedek, king and high priest of Jerusalem, and on the right is the prophet Elijah.
The three panels at the bottom of the window show Melchizedek (holding a chalice and bread) greeting Abraham who is returning from defeating the kings.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1897.

The lefthand light of the window portrays the prophet Isaiah, the central light shows John the Baptist and the righthand light features Moses holding the Ten Commandments.
The three panels at the bottom of the window depicts John the Baptist baptising Jesus, flanked by kneeling angels.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1897.
The inscription at the bottom reads:

Otter's Corner
The lefthand light of the window portrays Elizabeth with her son, John the Baptist. The central light shows Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the righthand light features St Francis of Assisi.
The three panels at the bottom of the window depict an old Elizabeth with her husband, Zacharias, celebrating the news of her pregnancy with Mary, Jesus the Good Shepherd and St Francis surrounded by birds.
The window is by C E Kempe, London, and dates from 1876.
The inscription along the bottom reads:

The left of the window is St Thomas ('doubting Thomas'). The central light portrays the risen Christ and the righthand light depicts St John with a quill pen and book.

Tower
North Aisle
One window contains plain glass.
The central light shows Jesus with the sisters, Mary and Martha.

The window portrays three angels with musical instruments: the angel on the left holds a harp, the one in the centre holds a lyre and the angel on the right holds a lute.
